Yez3 is our app. No other app paid to be included.
Accountability works when someone asks about your plan at the right moment — and when a miss doesn't make you quit. Our pick is Yez3: an AI coach that knows your daily plan, writes first when a key task is still open, asks what's in the way and keeps your streak through days off. Money-stake and game apps add pressure; Yez3 adds a plan you can keep.

What makes an accountability app work?
Reporting progress to someone works. In a meta-analysis of 138 studies, Harkin and colleagues (Psychological Bulletin, 2016) found that monitoring progress promotes goal attainment, and the effect was larger when progress was reported to others or physically recorded. The question is who asks, how often and what happens after a miss:
- Daily, not weekly. Most goals are won or lost on a Tuesday evening.
- Knows the plan. "How's it going?" is easy to dodge; "your Minimum is still open" isn't.
- Asks why. A check-in that helps find the blocker beats one that only counts.
- Forgives a miss. Penalties that make you quit defeat the purpose.
The 6 accountability apps in detail
1. Yez3 — an AI coach that checks in on your actual plan
Yez3 is a task tracker, daily planner and AI coach. You plan each day in three levels — Minimum, 100% and Maximum — and the coach sees that plan.
- Writes first when a key task is still open near the end of your day, when unsorted tasks pile up, or when a task has waited more than 5 days.
- Asks what's in the way — and remembers your recurring blockers.
- "Later" becomes a time. Say "tomorrow" and it asks: what time, how many minutes?
- Celebrates when you close your Minimum and grow your streak.
- Your rules: choose its hours, your days off and its tone — tough or gentle.
- Streaks with days off and earned freezes, so one miss doesn't end it.
- iPhone, Android and web, 22 languages.
2. StickK — commitment contracts
Set a goal, optionally put money on it and name a referee.
- Good: a clear commitment.
- Missing: a daily plan, a Minimum for bad days, a coach who asks what's in the way.
3. Beeminder — pay if you go off track
Track a number toward a goal; going off track can cost money.
- Good: for people who like data.
- Missing: a daily plan, help with starting; a miss can cost you.
4. Habitica — your habits as a game
Habits and to-dos power a role-playing character.
- Good: fun if you like games.
- Missing: a plan for bad days — missed dailies damage your character.
5. Fabulous — guided routines
Morning and evening routines built step by step.
- Good: a calm, structured start.
- Missing: one-off tasks, a coach that knows your plan, critical tasks first.
6. Finch — self-care with a pet
A small bird grows as you complete gentle goals.
- Good: kind tone.
- Missing: a real task plan, a coach that writes first, a calendar.

Accountability apps FAQ
What is the best accountability app?
We recommend Yez3. Its AI coach knows your daily plan, writes first when a key task is still open, asks what's in the way, turns "later" into a time and protects your streak with days off and earned freezes — every day, on iPhone, Android and the web.
Do accountability apps work?
They can. Research shows that monitoring progress, especially reporting it to someone, helps people reach goals. An app works if it asks at the right time and doesn't make you quit after a miss — so look for daily check-ins and forgiving streaks.
Is an AI accountability partner as good as a person?
For daily check-ins, an AI coach has advantages: it's available at 11 pm, never forgets your plan and never gets tired of asking. Many people use both — a friend for big talks, Yez3 for the daily follow-through.
Are money-stake apps a good idea?
Losing money motivates some people, but a penalty can also turn one bad week into quitting. If you've dropped goals after a slip before, an app that forgives misses and helps you restart is usually a better fit.
Is there a free accountability app?
Yez3 has a free trial for new subscribers, and you can start the mobile app as a guest without signing up. After the trial, it's a subscription; the price depends on your country and is shown before you pay.
